The Moyer Institute of Dance Competition Team was created by Sophie Moyer in 2014. Since then, our small-town team has won countless awards for not only their beautiful technical skill, but for their storytelling, bravery in choreography, focus, and attention to detail.
Our dancers love what they do, and it truly shows on stage.
In 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026 the Moyer Institute of Dance was awarded the prestigious Association of Dance Competitions & Conventions Studio Of Excellence Award, presented by StarQuest and Groove.
The Moyer Dance team is open to any dancer entering 1st grade+ who is committed and has a passion for dance. No advanced skill required! If you love to dance, we’d love to have you on our team!

Sophie Moyer
Sophie Moyer is a dancer, teacher, and choreographer with 15 years of professional experience. As the granddaughter of Joan Moyer and daughter of Kitty Moyer, she is proud to be the 3rd generation Moyer to carry on the family tradition. Sophie grew up dancing at The Moyer Institute of Dance, and also studied at Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet and Pennsylvania Regional Ballet. Sophie went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts in both Dance and Sociology from The George Washington University. During her time at GWU, Sophie was a board member, choreographer, and lead dancer with the university’s student dance company. She graduated with honors in dance and nominations for both choreography and performance excellence awards. Immediately upon graduation, Sophie became an Assistant Manager and youth & adult faculty member at Joy Of Motion Dance Center, located in DC and MD. Sophie relocated to NYC in 2016, where she continued her training for by regularly attending classes, workshops, and intensives such as Pushing Progress Contemporary Dance.
In addition to her work with the Moyer Institute of Dance, Sophie teaches and choreographs at studios across NYC, NJ, and CT. During her time in New York she was the Assistant Company Director at Performing Arts Workshop NJ, and is currently on the teaching faculty of Center Stage Dance Studio (8 years) and The Dance Pointe (3 years), both located in CT where she now resides.
Sophie’s classes focus on technique, strength, musicality, storytelling, growth-mindset, and the development of a personal and unique voice to share through movement. Her work stands out at competitions and has won countless awards for choreographic excellence over the years. She is thankful to her beautiful team dancers for their openness, dedication, and continued trust in her.
